Newport Boat Show 2012

Back to the Newport Boat Show!  Windy, but a very sunny day.
It's a fun event, since there are so many boats you can board.  They are all on the water too.
Another place where we always seem to run into friends.  Not hot rod friends, but yacht club friends.  Every one of our hobbies has it's own small world :)
This one was a favorite of ours   - the new C&C 101.  Mostly a racer, but still some comfort for it to be a cruiser.  Unfortunately, it's only boat #2.  A little too new for us.

Woodies on the Green

Next up - our first Woodies car show!  We were so excited for this one, and it did not disappoint.  Beautiful drive to the venue - Yarmouth Port, MA (on the Cape)

Small show - as there aren't that many Woodies.

 Our friend's 1941 (black one)

This Woodie was reno'd by our friend Bill in southern CA.  Pretty cool that someone from MA bought it, and it ended up at a show that we attended.  We had no idea - was a pretty cool surprise.

Our friend's Woodie, a model A- He helped us buy our Woodie.

After the show, all the Woodies did a 30 minute driving tour.

Another event we'll have to put on our calendar for next year.  Twist my arm :)

Hot Rod weekend (one of many)

Early summer, we train hard & race an Ironman.  Then the rest of the summer, we enjoy our sailboat (when we have one, sigh), and our hot rods.  We have a lot of hobbies & try to enjoy them all as much as possible.
So the 2nd weekend of September has always been Tyrod's Old Timers car show.  But now, we have also added the Orange County Nostalgia Drag car show.
The weekend was a hit.  My 2nd favorite weekend of the year (1st one was IM Lake Placid)

The drag reunion also has a 'car show' as well.  We drove our 1934 Ford Roadster.

A great weekend for hooking up with friends.  Saturday's show was in Fitchburg, MA & Sunday's show was in Lancaster, MA - close to each other.  So we stayed in a hotel with some of our other friends.  Happy with that decision, as we had a great time at dinner.  Lots of laughs.

Sunday morning - heading to the next event:  Tyrods Old Timers car show.

Our roadster was quite popular, so Chris was a happy guy.
Love Ken from Rolling Bones.  He is always a pleasure to hang out with.
Lots of cars.  This show always has good attendance  Perfect weather - cloudy, but no rain.

Was sad to see the weekend end.  But I know there are more fun hot rod events coming up!

Last sailboat race of the season

So sad to see summer end.  At least we had a beautiful evening for our last yacht club race.

Fundraiser!

Our second year at the Saint Elizabeth Fundraiser.  Silent Auction, live auction, good food, awesome desserts, and amazing friends!  How could we not come back!

Me & Chris :)
Checking out Bob's purse that he won at the silent auction.  It was for his daughter, and didn't mind at all that he had to carry it around.

We won (or bought) a trip to SF!  Our whole group actually was able to purchase the trip, so we'll be heading west with a  fun group!  It was more expensive than a trip that we would plan ourselves.  But it was for a good cause, and it is going to be so fun traveling to my old hometown with friends!

Linda (red dress) will be el Presidente of Saint Elizabeth next year.  Hoping we come back to the fund raiser again next year!

Saratoga Springs Labor Day trip

Road trip!  :)  Those words make me so happy.  We decided to head to NY and Saratoga Springs for the last long weekend of summer.

We got some good long bike rides in

Saw some great scenery

And found a great bar!  Tinney's Tavern at Lake Desolation (we also found some time to swim in this lake)

The dogs Jakkson & Tukker deliver the change to the guests.  It's obviously a low key place & we loved it!  (see the dollar bill between his paws??)

Our friend's had a horse Cameron Canyon racing at the Saratoga Springs race track, so we had some special behind the scenes action on Sunday.  Very cool!

We watched the races the rest of the day.  It's been a while since I've been to a horse track.  Last visit was when I lived in Chicago - went to Arlington.  Anyway, it was a fun experience.

Our friend also has his artist booth at the race track.  He spends 6 weeks every year at the races, and doesn't have to work much the rest of the year.   Sounds like a pretty good gig to me!

The following day, we went back to the race track to watch practice.  It was another cool experience.

The grandstands

Behind the scenes again - in the horse, jockey, and trainer village

Finished our weekend - back at Tinney's.  I really love that place!  Too bad it's 4 1/2 hours away.

Getting together with Friends!

Our friend's daughter turned 16!  They live in Connecticut, and we haven't visited them in a while, so we headed over for the birthday celebration!

It was a great party - with a super firework display at the end!  Happy Birthday Melissa!!

We also recently had some friends from SF in town for a visit.  They were in town for a conference, but we were lucky enough to see them in their spare time.  Dinner in Harvard Square :)  And a Sunday visiting RI's hot spots.  Good times!  Btw - Mark is the friend that introduced me & Chris :)

Providence Half Marathon!

Decided at the last minute to run the Providence Rock N Roll Half Marathon (13.1 miles).  We registered on Friday for a Sunday race.  Running races are so much easier to prepare for - just need running shoes & your race number!

Heading to the start!

We didn't PR, but we both had solid runs.  Chris was only 20 seconds short of his fastest time.  I was a couple minutes away.  Good efforts on the hilly packed course.  They did a great job with the bands too.  Great music & plenty of bands.  Very cool way to spend our morning!!
