Since our sailboat was smashed, we have more time to enjoy some of our other favorite summer activities - Polo! We try to go a few times every summer - it's relaxing and enjoyable.
Driving down the lane - to the Polo grounds:
The field:
The scoreboard: 3 chukkers; half time; 3 more chukkers (chukkers are 7 minutes long & horses are traded out for a fresh horse at the end of each chukker)
Pavillion & announcers booth
Chris & Toules hanging out
The grandstands
Anything & everything goes here. Some people dress up & bring elaborate tables with fancy food, while others wear shorts and bring deli sandwiches.
The serious tail gating section - you have to get here about 3 hours early if you want a spot.
4 riders per team & 2 referee's (and 2 goal judges)
It's very action packed!
Some of the riders bring their own horses in. When other countries come to play the Newport team - the Newport team provides the ponies.
There are a lot of helpers - warming the ponies up & cooling them down

During half time - we replace the divets!
The man responsible for bringing polo back to Newport & who we owe all the fun polo times to: Dan Keating. He ref'd this game, although he's usually one of the players
After the game/match; the riders trot along the edge & 'high five' the crowd. We love it!
