Watching the start of the Newport Bermuda Sailboat race

We didn't make it to the start of the first class, but there were many classes, so we still saw a bunch.  When we first arrived, it was overcast & foggy.  We could barely see the boats from our spot on land

and it slowly started to clear, so we could see other class starts much better

It was breezy, so the first boats took off!  But then a thunderstorm rolled in, with lightening, so they delayed the start of the last couple of classes

the wind then shifted around, so the last classes started downwind with spinnakers flying.  Crazy!

we had a lot of fun - wishing we were out there sailing to Bermuda too :)  Maybe one day

 

Taking Dallas' car back to him

 Dallas keeps one of his cars in our garage over the winter.   He usually drives it over and back, but this time we brought it back to him since we were taking our trailer to a friend's house to store it.

Sailing museum

A few of us from our Wednesday night racing crew, got together for a trip to Newport.  1st stop was to see some of the boats that were doing the Newport Bermuda sailboat race

This OC was full of youngsters, getting ready to tackle their first serious offshore race

then we headed over to the new sailing museum.  Lots of fun interactive pieces, but not a lot of written sailing history. It seemed more fitting for kids.  We still had fun

our crew for the season!  We have a big group - but we all won't be able to make every race, so it's nice to have extras

Season has started, and we got all the sailboats launched, thanks to a good volunteer group

we took a trip to Boston and had lunch with my niece Sarah :)   It was good to see her!!
