Final sail of the season

October is our favorite time to sail, since the waters are less crowded, and the scenery is beautiful.  Usually the weather is cool in the mornings but warm in the afternoons.   Our weather wasn't as good this October  - a few days of the nice, but more of the windy, blustery, damp.  So we ended our sailing season with a short cruise around the bay - not with our usual overnight to one of the islands like Block or Martha's.

A car show and a wedding reception!!

 And the trees are starting to turn.  It's so pretty - until the leaves fall off

 We drove our pickup, since we were going to have a late night.  Our friends got married in LA during the LA roadster show - but were having their reception today, so more friends and family could attend.    Chris' brother drove our orange coupe.  He enjoys driving it - especially now that Chris has fixed a few of the suspension problems

 Our friends live in a beautiful 1700's farmhouse.

 It's just amazing - and exactly what you would expect in the CT countryside!  The interior has beautiful wide pine boards for their floors - just gorgeous!  They also have an amazing barn, where he does his car stuff (of course!) 

 They have a lot of property, so a huge tent fit in well.

 It was a drizzly evening, but fortunately no big downpours.

 Our friends looked wonderful!!  And it was so fun to go after one of their  (and our) favorite car shows.  What a day!

Car show!!

It was kind of a cool, drizzly day, but we decided to drive an hour to a car show.  Better than staying home!

Catching up with an old friend - in Maine!

 

My first friend, who still lives in IL, was taking a vacation to Maine - so we decided to drive up and visit!

It's a pretty drive - so many quaint towns along the way

 And there is a Ton of water!!

 This is the area we visited - pretty neat looking!

 Some fun shops to explore too - of course, they were right on the water!

 My friend and I have been friends, since the ages of 3 & 4.   A long time!  We don't see each other much, but it's like we just saw each other when we do get together.  Nice, fun, and easy!!

Walking the beach with Bolts

We have a lot of lakes and ponds in our area.  Most are reservoirs, so we are unable to swim or boat in them.  But many of those are surrounded by conservation land that we can meander through.  Our water levels are very low this year - we didn't have much rain this summer.  So the beaches around the ponds are huge!  So now we can actually walk all the way around some of these ponds - and stay on the beach, which Bolts loves.

 

 Some of the 'beach' isn't very pretty - but it's still fun.

 There's a lot of exploring to do!!

A Sunday Sailboat Race

A neighboring yacht club offered a Sunday Sailboat race, so we decided to participate.  There are actually a ton of races on weekends -  but this was a low key event, which we prefer.

 

 Chris brought some friends from work

 There were around 40 sailboats racing - all with staggered starts:  the slowest rated boats going off first, with the fastest last.

 It was a cool day, but lots of sunshine!

 We all had a really fun time.

 Even when other boats passed us :)

 A drink at the yacht club after the race made it all the more nicer!
