LA continued

Our Saturday in LA was 'private collection' day.  We saw 4! private car collections.  $$ is no option in these either.  2 of them own cars that are worth more than $50M.  That's real $$!  We started the day with breakfast :)  and then headed to the Peterson Museum on Wilshire Blvd, LA. 

Oh, and it was a private tour - given by one of the board members.  So Cool!

 Our friends Bill & Jackie from England.  He flies all over the world doing Rally races.  Jackie goes on most of them too.  A favorite of theirs is one that involves vintage Bentley's and Mongolia...  So many amazing people to meet in this world!

 We were also taken to the other board rooms; and to the vault where they store many many more cars (switch them around for different events).  Everyone can pay for the vault tour.  But we were taken even further into the vault....  No pictures were allowed.  We saw some extremely rare cars and many owned by important dignitaries and stars.  It was an amazing start to the day and it just kept getting better...
Next stop - private collection in Beverly Hills.  Holy Moly!  Sorry, no pictures taken out of respect for the collector.

The Rolling Bones have a garage night in Saratoga Springs, NY every year.  This year, since most of the cars were in LA, they chose to have the event in LA.  So much warmer than NY!!!  Nice!  We met outside the GNRS and took 2 buses to the 'garage'.  Our host for the evening - Tom McIntyre.  He owns a RB car and we met up with him a couple years ago at Lime Rock, CT - where he races vintage cars.

 Out of respect for the collectors I didn't take many photos. Tom did allow us to take photos of his shop.  But we ventured down the road to a couple others who did not want photos taken.  So I just kept my phone in my pocket most of the evening.
My friend Magnus, took this photo for me of the 'garage night' at Tom's.  Magnus is very tall & very helpful :)  Lots of people - over 200 attended.

 Here's Tom talking about one of his cars in the collection.  He went around the whole room and shared stories of them all.  He is the nicest man and has the most wonderful stories.  He still has his 1st car he ever bought.  It's a Model A coupe and he bought it for $300 at the ripe old age of 14.  What a guy!  We hopefully will hook up with him again in July at the Mont Tremblant Canada historics & again in August - at the Monterey, CA  Historics

Such a fun evening to see all these loved cars.  What a day!

LA trip!

Ahhh, sunny warm days are here again!  We flew out to the LA area for Chris' business and to also see the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona.  Our orange coupe was a feature at the event.

Day 1 - Met up with our Reno friends, the Peckerheads, and headed to Old Crow Swap meet in Burbank

 

 They had found a neat antique store in the area, so we also stopped there.

 We also met up with our NC friends Dustin & Josh (we drove to LA with them a couple years ago) so they went on our adventurous day as well.  7 of us!

 and finally the GNRS!

 It's an inside car show, and they fill many buildings at the fairplex.  Lots to see!  Our friends, The Rolling Bones, had half a building set up with their/our cars.  They did an amazing job - letting anyone walk all around the cars - no ropes to hold them back.  And they set up some fun areas - salt area; workshop area; race of gentlemen area...  And along with Nick's Hot Rod Garage from CO - they set up a Hot Rod Hill Climb area.  It looked So good!

House update - moving right along (but never quick enough...)

We've been out of town & since we've been back, we haven't had internet.  It's finally working again, so time for an update!

We've had some snow - fortunately not too much - just enough to slow work down on the roof.

 

 But they've been busy inside!  This is what we came home to - covered floors & plastic wrapped rooms & no ceiling in the kitchen.  So we've been living in the back of the house  - 3 bedrooms & 2 baths.  Finding stuff is very challenging since we packed in kind of a rush.

 Then they started working on the roof & added the 4 skylights

 They are redoing the chimney - since it was rotted

 Then another day - they took down the living room ceiling & added the beams!  And took down the wood from the former ceiling.  Our new ceiling is Way.  Up.  There!

 Another day (see they have been busy!)  They framed in the fireplace :)  Bolts is a fan

 Snow is gone - so they can start 'roofing' again.  (these guys are the messiest of all!)  I thought the roofers would only be here 1 or 2 days.  These guys have been here 4 and will still be coming back.

 Another day inside - The wall between the living room & kitchen was taken down (we are only taking it partially down so we don't have to move appliances & redo the kitchen).   The back 2 skylights were added; and the fireplace was framed to the ceiling.

 

Every day is a new adventure.  The noise only bothers the white kitty - probably bc it disrupts her eating :).  I don't mind it.  My only complaints are not having a parking spot in my driveway & the roofers leaving the back gates open.
