LA trip Days #11 & 12

I guess our trip had to end sometime...  what a wonderful ride!!!

On Sunday, we drove north - to Reno, NV with our friends.

 Another beautiful ride!

 Our friends are going to keep the Phaeton for a while.  They all have nice big garages :)

 Chris did give the Phaeton a good cleaning - Getting all that road dust and el mirage dirt off.

 We stayed with our friends for a couple days - going on some really nice walks through our old home town.

 And always enjoying some really good conversations and meals!!  See you all soon!!

LA trip Days #9 & #10

Friday morning - off to the fairgrounds to set up for the swap meet

Friday night - we made it to Walden's open house

 Love the CA palm trees!  So tall - wow!!

 It was hot hot hot!!  Temperature gauge was off the charts, no lie!

 Chris and an amazing hot rodder from the day - invented cam shafts.  Anyone who's anyone comes to this show - you get to see them all!

LA trip Day #8

Day #8 - actually going to be in LA at the end of the day!

Left Jean, NV around 7 am; another windy day, so top down again. 

 California!

 We got off the highway in Barstow, CA and drove Route 66 for a while - nice!!

 We stopped at an abandoned gas station for more photo ops :)

 Then we stopped at El Mirage - a dry lake where they do a lot of racing.

 The RB cars did a lot of drive bys  so they could get good photos

 Then the photographers jumped in our car, and we drove along side, so they could get even better pictures.  It was pretty cool!!

 Then late afternoon, we made it to Pomona, CA (LA suburb).

 We needed a couple parts for the cars, so we all jumped into the Phaeton, and drove over to Walden Speed Shop

 Pretty cool facility!!  They have a huge party on Friday night (kick off the LA roadster weekend)

That night, we met up with our Reno friends and went out to dinner.  No more dinners with the RB gang - but we would see them plenty at the roadster show.

LA trip Day #7

Day #7 started early, since a few of us wanted to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  We were so close (only 60 miles), and none of us had been.

 Unfortunately, our friends got a flat tire, so they had to turn around, and meet up with the group who didn't come with us (they have a trailer, with extra tires, parts, etc)

 We are sorry they missed this - b/c the GC was Amazing!!  I lived on the west coast for 10 years - and never made it here.  Finally!

 Our friends, Ron & Terry had never been here before either.

 We only had one hour to spend here, so we could still catch up with our other friends, so we did just a couple short hikes.  Really nice & beauty around every corner!

 Later that afternoon - on our way to Las Vegas, we stopped and put the top down. On the hottest & sunniest day of our trip!  But the wind was so wild, we thought we were going to be picked up and tossed around, so we had to put the top down.

 The dust storms on the way to Vegas were crazy

 No one really wanted to spend the night in Vegas, so we stopped a little outside - in Jean, NV.  Of course, almost all hotels in Nevada are casinos, so that's where we stayed too. We did have a nice dinner that night through.  Only had to drive 380 miles this day.
