Hurricane Irene - some before & after's

Before

After (sleeping)

Before

Chris was leveling a refrigerator at our 3 family that we bought in Bristol. It leveled him...

Only 1 1/2 hours in the emergency room - Saturday night before Irene

After (and a serious black eye the next day)

Yes, this is #2 sailboat ruined in 2 years. We had the boat hauled - insurance will pay. But it didn't do us any good. 60 foot cow of a sailboat fell over onto us - of course. Not sure how? We were in the middle of about 50 boats. Our mast is broken:

Still assessing damage because they have to get a 100 ton crane to lift that behemoth off us.

No more sailing for 2011. 2012 ?

Other Irene marks:

Mostly just some large tree limbs & leaves in our yard.

A little ways down the road: made getting to the highway interesting. This was one of many trees on powerlines.

The harbor - the big storm surge at high tide caused most of the damage.

There were quite a few of these around too

People did their best to prepare. It wasn't the biggest storm, but it still did a lot of damage

Our favorite ice cream place boarded up for a while

Looks like we'll be doing more camping & hot rodding this fall, since sailing is out. Polo on Saturdays too!

Stuff

We had to cancel our trip across country to Bonneville this year due to Chris' work - boss visiting from Austria. Guess it was for the best, since we've had so many guests visiting.
We have done a few other things than entertain this summer (but not many).

We've taken Toules on some great walks.

Driven the red car - a lot!

Oh, yep, back to more guests: Dominik & Daniela from Austria. So we took them sailing. Our last sail before Hurricane Irene - that bi*@h.

We also managed to meet up the yacht club members who did the summer cruise. Every year, our yacht club chooses a destination that members can take a week to cruise to. This year their final destination was Marblehead - north of Boston. They stop at different yacht club & harbors along the way. We couldn't do the cruise, so we actually met them for dinner on 2 occasions. It was fun seeing the different yacht clubs

We've also managed to keep exercising - although not as regularly as we would like.

Stinky shirt proves that we've been doing something though! Cat loves the stink - she's just as bad as the dog - gross! I had to wrestle the shirt away from her, so I could wash it!

Patriots pre season football game

Scored some pre season football tickets through my work.

Was a beautiful 80 degree evening! Who wants to be there when it's 30 freezing degrees!

Warming up

Chris took business with him

Twas a good game - the Patriots beat the Jacksonville Jaguars. I'm a Chicago Bears fan at heart, but I still really enjoyed watching the Patriots play & win.

House Guests Galore!

We've had a lot of company this summer - it has been great! My nephew joined us for 4th of July week. Then my girlfried came to drop her daughter off for camp & spent a couple days. Then she brought her husband & son back with her, when they came to pick up their daughter!

So we went sailing

And swimming
and to a concert & out to dinner!

Then another friend & family joined us :)

We also went sailing

And to a car show

where the kids rode in the rumble seat!

We also went to a Cape Cod Baseball league game

And went to Newport to see the mansions & enjoy the cliff walk. (Amy & me) They also took many day trips to the Cape & Boston. I had to work ;(

Then my brother & his family joined us . Here are my niece & nephew with my husband at dinner in Newport.

Chris took them & my brother for a ride in the Phaeton

And we took a tour of Fenway Park

And watched the Red Sox & Yankees game that evening

Niece, nephew & sister in law

We of course went sailing. Cloudy day, but warm

Everyone gets a chance at the helm :)

We also had to show them Plymouth - the rock & the Mayflower.

Good times were had by all!!

A trip home

My dad passed away on July 22nd. He had been sick, so it wasn't unexpected. Still sucks of course.

Here is a picture of him when he was in high school.

Not the best circumstances, but it brought almost the whole family together again. I hadn't seen some of my cousins since I was in high school. It was really good to reconnect.

Here are my mom's sisters.

My dad's sister also made the trip up from Florida. I don't think I took one picture of her & her 2 sons that she brought. Darn. Oh well, we'll see them in October.

Doesn't my mom have a beautiful garden??
