BVI Trip - Day 5

Good morning!
Bitter End Yacht Club - we went ashore to check it out
This is a well known spot for BVI'ers, and it just reopened this spring from Hurricane Irma 2017.   The hurricane completely wiped all this away.  Some locals said that they were staying in a friend's expensive house in the next bay, and while the hurricane was hitting, they had to move from room to room as the roof was being torn from the house.  They ended up in the bath room - but were alive and uninjured

they have done an amazing job rebuilding - but money was donated mostly by some wealthy europeans who learned to kite sail here

early morning - quiet

we walked all around - and then through some obvious rebuilding.  There used to be a number of cottages that were available for rent, so there is still a lot of rebuilding to be done.  (they currently only have a couple cottages)

stones and sticks from the hurricane
a hiking path - unusable due to being so overgrown - something they haven't had a chance to fix yet

it's still a beautiful area
the market - this resort had a few more buildings that Cooper and Norman Island Resorts.  Virgin Gorda is a much bigger island and has many locals who live there, unlike Cooper and Norman

Bill & Barbara ordered some bloody mary's :)

these are the 2 cottages available to rent

back to the boat - and on to snorkeling!    Chris Bj took us (via dinghy) to a reef a couple miles out in the ocean.  It was pretty cool, but also a little terrifying - being out in the middle.  We could still easily see land, but most of the snorkeling we had done thus far had been right next to the shore.

Back on boat, we showered and got ready for dinner on Saba Rock

This is also completely rebuilt - and very beautiful

Tarpin feeding at 5 pm -  - we were excited to watch

the tarpin were big!  and obviously used to being fed - they were quite viscous.  I would not be happy if I fell into that!

Saba rock is small - and only has one building which takes up most of the rock.  Back in the day, it used to be a tiny hamburger stand, which I think would be much cooler

upstairs in the building is a happening bar with pool table and other fun activities

still pretty quiet for 'rush' season.  Hopefully, people will still continue to come.  Covid hasn't helped these islanders in their efforts to rebuild that's for sure

we grabbed a few chairs and relaxed before dinner

then it was time to eat!

our table was right on the water!  Hopefully those Tarpin don't jump!!

good food
my birthday too!

another fun day - glad to be back on the boat for some sleep!
