Our friend Richie talked us into heading to Wildwood, New Jersey for the Race of Gentlemen (2nd annual). We missed out on the Rodders Journal Revival in Baltimore, so we were ready for a long hot rod trip! We decided to be brave & take the pick up. It's pretty cramped, so we weren't sure how comfortable we would be.
It took about 7 hours to get to the Jersey Shore (which is super cool). It was my first time visiting the area.
Our motel. The whole town is retro. A lot of motels from the 50's, but kept super clean. Loved the area!
I headed to the beach to check it out (it was a block from our hotel)
Definitely the widest beach I have ever visited. It's at least 1/4 mile from the sidewalk to the water. Locals say that all the other beaches are getting smaller, but Wildwood just keeps getting bigger. This pier is about 20 yards from the water. At one point it had to be in the water, right?? Otherwise, why would they have built it?
There were at least 3 boardwalks in the area too -with roller coasters. And I don't have a clear picture - but dolphins were playing in the water - just off the beach.
Once we were settled, we headed over to the host motel for the Race of Gentlemen (which is hot rods drag racing on the beach). The motel was the Starlux. Felt very George Jetsonish. We kept looking around for Astro!
Here are Chris & Dallas checking out the cars that would be racing.
Our friend, Ken, was racing too (the car he was racing is in the background - reddish 55)
Heading back to our motel - snapped some pictures of the other cool motels. They were all so neat.
