Day 1 of our Canada trip started off as usual - cancelled flight, sigh. We are used to it by now, so we just make the best of it! The only bummer is the airline we were flying had only one flight to Reno, NV a day. So we had an entire day to kill..
A friend had given us a ride to the airport, so we decided to spend the night in Boston.
A good dinner!
a visit to my old part time job - Crate & Barrel (love it!!)
We just enjoyed our day - gallivanting around our old home town
We did make it to Reno that next day - whew! Our friends had already taken off on our trip, so we had a long way to go (and a short time to get there...) Funny, as soon as we got on the highway, we hooked up with another group of hot rodders and drove with them for a while.
Even though we had to stay inland and miss the coast, we still had some great views
Mt Shasta - for miles and miles!
California is not pretty in the summer - brown brown brown. If you haven't been - visit CA in the spring - it is so much prettier!
CA is also very very long!! This was the last exit on Hwy 5! Wowzer!
Since we were traveling a different route on the first day, we decided to take another detour and visit a friend we haven't seen in 11 years! We had a really nice lunch with him and his wife. He drives his yellow roadster everywhere!
Then we took off through the redwoods - cool and beautiful
They were BIG!!
After the redwoods, we made it to the coast and found our friends that we were driving to Canada with!!!!
We all drove to the hotel together
and had a lovely dinner
Some shenanigans later in the evening - like messing with Ray's headlights.... that was minor compared to the rest of the trip. No wonder these guys are called the Peckerheads!!!
